About the Artist
Ronda L. Stoll began Oriental Brush Painting twenty years ago when she was drawn to the simplicity and meditative aspects of painting Bamboo, one of the Four Gentlemen. She feels that oriental painting is a direct embodiment of the union of artistic expression and stillness.
Twelve years ago she began studying Chinese Brush Painting with Yinglei Zhang, an inspirational teacher of Flower/Bird painting and Calligraphy. Yinglei was instrumental in broadening her scope to the other Three Gentlemen; Orchid,
Plum Blossom and Chrysanthemum, as well as other subjects in the Flower/Bird.
Several of her haiku poems have been translated by Yinglei and accompany her paintings. She has taken lessons with Henry Wo and has been influenced by his
less traditional watercolor techniques.
She has also studied landscape painting with Frederica Marshall and Jo Steinhurst; both have been inspiring teachers of the beauty of mountain and mist painting.
Ronda's work has been exhibited in many galleries in Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine including the Wood Gallery in Monteplier, Vermont, The Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, Vermont and the Pierson Gallery in Deer Isle, Maine. In 2010 she had her own show at Central Vermont Medical Center.
Ronda Shoku Stoll teaches workshops and private clients in Sumi-e painting.
